I thought I'd do a couple of posts on our Tassie trip, so many lovely photos!
We flew into Devonport after a full day of delayed flights (foggy Canberra) and hanging around airports! It was dark and blowing a gale. We found our rental Barina and headed off to find Burnie.
I had booked an apartment based on a google search for art deco tasmania. It was nice and cosy with original features and (some) era style furniture.
Burnie itself didn't have much to offer - a few nice art deco buildings and the usual shops. There are a few big art deco houses around town that were built in the boom times of the 1930's and some lovely homes from different eras.
We had a nice meal and bought a bottle of wine to take back to drink in front of the gas fire. Awful coffee for breakfast at a bakery the next day and then off on our way, in lovely sunshine and warmish weather. We stopped at the visitors centre and the
Makers Workshop. I loved this - a collection of local artists with their own space in the centre, doing their painting, leatherwork, printing and other arts and crafts. There was a display of fashions made from paper from a recent competition - lovely.
It would be nice to visit Burnie again in Spring, maybe next year......
